Jacket Trio Swims Their Way to State

Three Yellow Jackets will be swimming at the 5A state meet following qualifying finishes at Saturday’s Regional finals.

Jaxon Coates will be competing in the 500 freestyle following his gold medal finish in the Regional finals. He also qualified in the 100 butterfly after placing third.

Samara Hall is headed for state as the Regional silver medalist in the 200 individual medley.

Matthew Harman is a two-event qualifier following medal finishes in the 100 breaststroke, where he was the meet champion, and the 50 freestyle where he took the bronze.

This is the second consecutive year for the trio to represent Cleburne at the state contest, which will take place February 14-15 at The University of Texas at Austin.

Coates, who is a junior, qualified in the same events in 2019. Samara, a sophomore, qualified for state in her first year of high school swimming, competing in the 500 freestyle. Her older brother, Matthew, also a junior, went to Austin as an alternate in the 100 breaststroke.

Cleburne posted a strong showing at the Regional Meet, with the girls team placing fifth and the boys finishing in third place overall. The girls 200 freestyle relay team of Harman, Julie Hall, Belle Mahaffey and Kambree Coates barely missed a berth at state after placing third in the Regional finals.
