More than 400 Cleburne High School sophomores, juniors, seniors and members of the Class of 2021 were recognized for their achievements in the classroom at the 39^th Annual Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony.

                In 1982, St. Mark United Methodist Church proposed a program to recognize CHS students for their dedication to academics and designated a grade point average standard for eligibility. First time honorees were awarded an Academic Excellence pullover sweater. That was later changed to a black and gold Academic Excellence afghan, with repeat honorees receiving a certificate of achievement.

                Support for the program comes from the St. Mark congregation as well as members of the community. The recognition has also expanded to include a scholarship program; two were awarded in May of 2021 to graduates Juan Mares, who is attending The University of Texas at Arlington and Michelle Garcia, who is continuing her studies at The University of Texas.
