November is National Family Engagement Month!

Throughout November, National Family Engagement Month is celebrated in recognition of the contributions of families. Cleburne ISD is highlighting this observance as an opportunity to raise awareness of the important role parents play in a child’s education.

As a school district, we recognize the home as the child’s first classroom, and the family as the first and most influential teacher in a child’s life. VideoWe value our CISD parents and seek to develop a partnership with the families of our students, working together to increase the potential for their student’s academic success.

Research shows that the more engaged parents and families are in a child’s education, the better the outcome for their child in their work and progress in the classroom, and in their desire to learn. Research also emphasizes the importance of families extending beyond involvement, such as “ just attending” events, to engagement, meaning “doing activities together”.

We offer many opportunities for family engagement at the campus level through special activities such as Family Science Night or Family Literacy Night, as well as Open House events, PTA and Volunteers In Public Schools. Families—and “grandfriends”—make great contributions to our VIPS campus programs as Reading Buddies, extra hands in the library and cafeteria, student mentors, tutors and in assisting teachers with tasks relating to classroom instruction.

Below you will find a special calendar designed for National Family Engagement Month—or use at any time—featuring 30 days of suggested daily activities for engaging with your child.

These can be adjusted to best fit the age/grade level of your student or students. Some activities relate to academics while others provide you with ways and opportunities to engage in purposeful two-way conversations with your child. Engagement in your child’s education can begin with a simple conversation—with your student--and also his or her teacher.

We have also listed the names and contact information for each of our campus Family Engagement Liaisons.

They are here for you! Their efforts center on connecting and engaging with our parents and families in providing information, securing community/educational resources to enhance the learning abilities of their students, and strengthening the bond between school and home through meaningful family engagement.

As a district, we are very excited to come together with our families in observing National Family Engagement Month. We know you have many options for educating your child, and we thank you for choosing Cleburne ISD.
