Trustees Approve 7 Percent From Midpoint General Pay Increase for Teachers in 2022-2023

Members of the CISD Board of Trustees have unanimously approved a seven percent general pay increase from the midpoint for teachers, RNs and librarians for the 2022-2023 school year. The salary increase translates into approximately $4,200, and sets the pay for beginning teachers at $58,800.

Trustees approved a three percent raise from the midpoint for all other CISD staff.

The one-time Longevity Payment for teachers and all staff, first introduced in 2020-2021, will continue into 2022-2023—with expanded amounts. This bonus will be for employees who have been with the district since the first day of instruction for the new school year. The Longevity pay scale for 2022-2023 is listed below:

For Teachers, Librarians, RNs and Counselors:

0-4 years: $1,000

5-10 years:  $1,500

11-15 years:  $2,000

16+ years:  $2,500

For All Other Employees (Paraprofessionals, Auxiliary staff, LVNs, Administrators):

0-4 years:  $500

5-15 years:  $1,000

16+ years:  $1,500

In addition to addressing pay increases, the board acted on a recommendation from district administration to expand the term life insurance policy provided to all employees, from $10,000 to $20,000. CISD will continue to contribute $225 monthly toward insurance coverage for those enrolled in TRS-Active Care—which will have no rate increase in 2022-2023.

The district will also continue with annual stipends for instructional staff, starting with $1,500 for Master’s Degrees, and $5,000 for the Bilingual Certification. A one-time $500 stipend is provided to teachers upon achievement of the ESL-General Certification.

“With the unanimous approval given by our Board of Trustees to these compensation recommendations for 2022-2023, the starting pay for teachers new to the profession will now be $58,800,” Superintendent Dr. Kyle Heath said. “The hopes in presenting this recommendation to our Trustees, were to recognize the hard work, commitment and loyalty of our employees, with retaining the best staff to be found anywhere as our ultimate priority. We also strive to attract the top candidates for our classrooms—in doing what is best for kids.”

When factoring in the new pay proposal approved by trustees at the May 9 work session, a 31 percent increase for instructional staff is reflected over a nine-year period, starting in 2014-2015.

“This is indicative of strong action by our school board through the years—in recognizing the job done by our teachers and staff," Heath said. “We are fortunate to be in a financial position to recommend this pay increase/compensation package. Our philosophy has always been to adequately pay our employees to do their jobs. We are also fortunate to have a team committed to doing whatever it takes for our students—every day.”

In April, trustees approved an addition to the district’s compensation program in providing no-cost pre-kindergarten, starting in 2022-2023, for employees’ children who meet the state’s age specifications for pre-K instruction.
