Seven Cleburne High School students have been honored by the College Board National Recognition Program for their academic achievements and outstanding performance on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and/or AP exams.

The College Board National Hispanic Recognition Award has been presented to senior Elizabeth Youngberg and junior Chloe Torres.

Recognized with the College Board National Rural and Small Town Awards are seniors

Avery Lacroix, Harmony Conner, Lynetta House, Paigen Lanford and Parker Pritchard. They will be presented to CISD Trustees at Monday’s school board meeting.

            Students who are being honored must have taken the PSAT/National Scholarship Qualifying Test in the Fall of 2021 and scored within the top ten percent or participated in two district AP exams as eighth or ninth graders and scored a 3 or higher.  All honorees must have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Students with eligible scores in eligible exam windows who have disclosed their race/ethnicity as African American/Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous or attend high school in a rural area or small town were formally invited to apply for the College Board recognition. The mission of the College Board awards program is to showcase underrepresented scholars for their academic achievements in the classroom and their commitments to obtaining a college education.

While not utilized as a scholarship program, students can include the honor in their college and scholarship applications.  

            "I'm very glad to receive this award," Pritchard said. "I can put it on college and scholarship applications. That's important to me because I am going to college and need all the financial support I can receive. This shows I put in the time and effort--that's why I'm being recognized."

Youngberg, who plans to major in engineering in college, is pleased to be among those being honored.

"I applied for the recognition when I took the PSAT," she said. "I thought it would be really cool, but I didn't know if I would get it. To be one of only seven students at CHS to achieve this--I'm proud of that.”
