    Introduction to Choir (Semester Class) 6th Graders

    "Music 6" is an introduction to music and provides an excellent opportunity for students to participate and learn in a choral ensemble. Students will learn the basics of sight-reading, music theory, vocal production, and choral performance. Performances are a requirement of this course and students will be held to a high standard of excellence throughout the semester. Grades in this class are determined by a student's level of performance (participation), written work, and attendance at performances. Students enrolled in "Music 6" will take "Introduction to Art" the other semester.

    7th/8th Grade Boys Choir (Full Year)

    As a 7th/8th grader in a choir, students are introduced to a higher level of choral performance with an emphasis on competitive choral singing and competitive sight-reading. Previous experience in a choir is recommended but not required to take this class.

    In this course, we specifically address the challenges of the changing male voice as it applies to speaking and singing. Other topics include vocal health, music theory, choral performance, and much more. Performances are a requirement of this course and students will be held to a high standard of excellence throughout the semester. Grades in this class are determined by a student's level of performance (participation), written work, and attendance at performances.

    7th/8th Grade Girls Choir (Full Year)

    As a 7th/8th grader in a choir, students are introduced to a higher level of choral performance with an emphasis on competitive choral singing and competitive sight-reading. Previous experience in a choir is recommended but not required to take this class.

    In this course, we work on understanding the developing female voice and its application to choral singing. Much of our time is on proper tone, vowel placement, and ensemble balance. Other topics include vocal health, music theory, choral performance, and much more. Performances are a requirement of this course and students will be held to a high standard of excellence throughout the semester. Grades in this class are determined by a student's level of performance (participation), written work, and attendance at performances.

    Encore! (Select 6th Graders Only) choir


    "Encore!" is an auditioned group that meets every week in the choir room. Students in this group must have a strong grasp of vocal production, sight-reading using solfege, and performance technique. These select 6th graders are allowed to participate in certain events and opportunities usually only reserved for 7th and 8th-grade choir students. An extremely high level of commitment and discipline are required for this ensemble.
