Safety & Security

  • The safety of students, schools, and staff is an uppermost priority in Cleburne ISD. We continually monitor, reinforce, review and revise our procedures in an ongoing commitment to providing a safe learning environment while promoting emergency preparedness among students and staff.

    District processes and programs include:

    • Campus School Resource Officers
    • Annual safety audits for all CISD campuses and facilities. Cleburne ISD holds a School Safety Certification from the Texas School Safety Center for its safety and security practices and is in compliance with state regulations (Texas Education Code 37.108) regarding safety audits.
    • Cleburne ISD partners with the Cleburne Police Department and the Johnson County Precinct One Constable's Office in providing School Resource Officers and Deputies. These officers help ensure safety at our schools while developing positive relationships with our students.
    • All CISD campuses and facilities utilize controlled access and vestibules.
    • All campus visitors are required to produce identification which is scanned through the Raptor Management System.
    • All campuses conduct a variety of safety drills throughout the school year. These include:
      • Fire and evacuation
      • Lockdown and related practices
      • Tornado/Shelter in Place

Our collaboration, cooperation, and partnerships with local and area law enforcement, first responders, and emergency management include their membership on the CISD Safety and Security Committee. This committee meets regularly with district and campus administrators to develop and review procedures and protocol relating to safety and security. This includes the District and Campus multi-hazard Emergency Operation Plans, centered on prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery while researching and discussing future safety and security initiatives. Recommendations from the Texas School Safety Center are also utilized in implementing best practices for campus safety.

Over a six-year period, CISD has dedicated more than $2.1 million to safety and security measures including:

    • Access-controlled entrances and vestibules
    • Alarm systems, including alerts when an access door is ajar
    • Security fencing
    • Public address/intercom upgrades at older campuses
    • Classroom door locks and hardware
    • New and upgraded video surveillance, including high definition cameras

The District conducts regular and ongoing staff training relating to safety and security. Behavioral Threat Assessment Teams are in place at all campuses.
